about brianna

Hi. Salut. やあ. Hallo. Merhaba. привет. Përshëndetje. Ciao. नमस् ते. Salam. 嗨. Zdravo. ¡Hola! مرحبا

As a lifelong lover of learning, I am an extensively educated, experienced, & passionate teacher from the USA who was named Teacher of the Year. With over 20 years of experience, I know science and maths deeply, I know how to teach them clearly, and I know how to help students build confidence and curiosity. Since 2019, I have been offering personalized academic support in Zurich—independently and directly.

academic background
I hold six university degrees, including a doctorate in Educational Leadership & Management, master’s degrees in Physics Education and Biology, and bachelor’s in Life Science & Biobehavioral Health with minors in Neuroscience and Spanish. My research experience spans genetics, nanomaterials, particle physics, and biofuels.

approach & curricula
I teach students from IB, Matura, AP, IGCSE, and A-Level curricula in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math among others. My lessons combine rigorous problem-solving with real-world explanation, humor, and a kaizen mindset of steady improvement. I help students understand not only the content, but the reasoning behind the questions examiners expect them to answer.

sessions
Our time together is tailored to what a student needs most: from weekly subject support, targeted writing and proofreading, or intensive exam preparation. Lessons can be online or in person: at my place, your place, or another place. We meet individually, for a private workshop, or in a small group. I teach through a Socratic, conversational style supported by visuals, encouraging students to think aloud, ask questions, stretch their reasoning, and learn in ways that feel both productive and engaging. Sessions are designed to be rigorous and fun.

international perspective
Many of the students I work with have moved between countries or educational programs, sometimes by choice and sometimes by circumstance. An international perspective means understanding that learning styles, assessment expectations, and classroom cultures vary widely. My role is to help students carry their strengths from one classroom or curriculum to another, rather than feel defined or limited by where they happen to be studying.

special sessions
Alongside private tutoring, I design and lead interdisciplinary workshops and summer courses that blend science, mathematics, writing, and analytical thinking. These include CAS-aligned Investigative Claims Labs and Writing Architecture Labs, offered through partnerships with Foundations for Learning and other organizations.
